As Hopkins County teenagers are bustling around preparing for the prom and graduation season, Hopkins County Attorney, Todd P’Pool, has taken the opportunity to remind them that underage drinking is both illegal and deadly, through a countywide prevention effort. “During prom week, we placed signs at the entrances of all three high schools in hopes of preventing students from making this deadly decision,” said P’Pool.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that more than 5000 people under the age of 21 die from alcohol-related car crashes and more that 190,000 visit emergency rooms for alcohol related injuries each year. “These statistics are unacceptably high and parents are encouraged to talk to their teens about the dangers of underage drinking,” advised P’Pool.
This prevention effort is in cooperation with the Dawson Springs High School, Hopkins County Central High School, Madisonville North Hopkins High School and Al McFarland of Madisonville Towing.Leave a reply
